BIOGRAFIE

Margot Kolodziej (1993) started playing the violin at the age of seven. In 2004 she was admitted to the School for Young Talent, part of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she took lessons with Koosje van Haeringen. After obtaining her VWO diploma in 2012, she started the Bachelor's degree program at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam that same year. There Margot studied with Kees Koelmans. After obtaining her Bachelor's degree in June 2016, she was admitted to the Master's where she studied with Ilya Grubert. In June 2019, Margot graduated with a 9.

Margot is a versatile musician. Besides being active as a soloist, Margot has her own quartet and  regularly replaces with  various chamber and symphony orchestras.

 

Her first solo performance took place when she was fifteen, with the Orkest van het Groene hart. At the age of twenty she performed as a soloist with the Korngold violin concerto, with the Symphony Orchestra Rijnstreek. In November 2018 she performed as a soloist with Laura Oomens in Bach's double concerto, together with members of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. Margot likes to play chamber music and is primary with the ADAM Quartet.

With this, and also with other ensembles, she performed several times in the Concertgebouw, on Radio 4 and on TV at Podium Witteman, among others.

​

Margot has a lot of experience as an orchestral musician. She is a member of the well-known Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, she was in 2017  concertmaster of the National Youth Orchestra, she has participated in the Nedpho Academy and now regularly plays in  renowned Dutch orchestras.   Margot is currently also a member of Lonneke van Straalen's brand new orchestra: Pynarello.

Margot likes to push the boundaries of classical music.   She often plays  music by contemporary composers, collaborates with other art forms and, in addition to concerts in concert halls, also enjoys playing the violin in unusual places. She once stood on the center spot of the Arena, played Bach on a bicycle in the gym and had her own concert series.  in an Amsterdam cafe.

Margot was invited to many masterclasses and courses, such as the BMI Performance Artist Masterclasses, where she received masterclasses in the Great Hall of the Philharmonie in Berlin and the International Masterclasses Apeldoorn, where she gave several concerts together with Asdis Valdimarsdottir, Joe Puglia and Anastastia Feruvela. . She attended other masterclasses with Liviu Prunaru, Ilya Grubert, Philippe Graffin, Emmy Verheij, Dmitri Ferschtman and Vera Beths.

 

Margot plays on a violin built by Ettori Soffriti in 1927. This violin was offered to her by the National Musical Instruments Fund.
